A snappy scribe and insightful journalist, Louise Hudson writes for a host of newspaper travel sections, a series of tourism textbooks, as well as her own blog. Her articles have appeared in countless newspapers, magazines and websites including the LA Times, Canada’s Globe & Mail, the Boston Globe, Ski Canada, and USA Today. Meeting Dr Simon Hudson at high school in England in the 70s has led to a lifetime of entrepreneurialism, adventurous travel, working overseas, and collaboration on textbooks. Back in the 80s, the couple set up a very successful fashion business in England and Louise still dabbles in design in between journalism assignments. Her writing career started in the late 70s with a newspaper apprenticeship and was rekindled after blogging from the Spring 2006 voyage led to book and newspaper publications. She also has a background in tour operations, working as an overseas representative in European ski resorts. This is Louise’s third voyage with Semester at Sea, and she’s particularly looking forward to rediscovering the culture and history of Europe after 20 years of living in and exploring North America. Revisiting the African ports will give her the chance to check more bucket-list boxes. And the South American countries will be full of surprises, novelties and learning opportunities for her. Working with the Lifelong Learners was also on her wish list and she’s thrilled to be assistant to the coordinator for Fall 19. And, with her previous two voyages both being catalysts for new career directions, she’s excited to discover what her third Semester at Sea re-invention will be.
