Margaret J. Peña Harden

Maggie Harden is currently the Director of the Institute for Faculty Advancement at the University of Virginia.  In this role her primary responsibilities involve creating and running academic leadership and faculty development programs, program evaluation and assessment as well as needs assessment and institutional planning in regards to faculty recruitment, retention and advancement. She has presented nationally on faculty leadership programs and recruitment. Previous positions include Senior Program Coordinator for the NSF funded UA ADVANCE program and Program Coordinator for diversity and education initiatives within the NSF funded Center on Materials and Devices for Information Technology Research at the University of Arizona. Maggie has B.A. in History from the University of Arizona and an M.A. in History from the University of Georgia. Maggie was raised in a family that believed strongly in investing in experiences over things, has traveled extensively in the states, with briefer excursions in Costa Rica and Spain, and is very excited to be on this voyage.
