Since July 2016, Maria Barra has been backpacking, volunteering and working throughout South America. Prior to her travels, she worked as a Program Coordinator for the American University’s Key Executive Leadership Program in Washington, DC. In this role, she managed a wide variety of programs designed to enhance leadership skills for executives working in the federal government. Maria enjoyed working closely with faculty members to create a supportive and productive learning environment for the students. During this time, she also attended American University and completed her Master’s Degree in International Training and Education in May 2016.
Maria’s passion for travel was first fueled at the age of sixteen during a study abroad program in Austria with Rotary International. It wasn’t long before she sought a second study abroad experience and was delighted to sail with Semester at Sea on the Spring 2007 voyage. Besides travel, Maria enjoys the beach, meeting new people, learning new languages, playing board games, writing, hiking and attending comedy shows. Maria is looking forward to taking advantage of the outdoor activities in Colorado, and of course, sailing once again.
