Marti Fessenden J.D. M.Ed. brings a 30+ year career in law, higher education administration and non-profit leadership. She currently serves as the Special Counsel to the President of Agnes Scott College while occasionally consulting other colleges and universities as well. She has practiced law for more than 26 years, most recently with the firm she founded – The Fessenden Firm / Higher Ed Advise. Marti’s college administration career began at Emory University where she held several campus-life administration positions before leaving to start her law career in Philadelphia.
Marti has a wealth of international travel and study abroad experience. She has sailed on four Semester at Sea voyages as a Resident Director in 1988, the Assistant Executive Dean in 1996 & 2011, and, as Executive Dean in 2014 – on three different ships. She also has traveled independently around the world by backpack. At the conclusion of the Spring 2019 voyage, she will have had the great fortune to have explored more than 35 countries, the majority of which has been with college students. She happily will be sailing again with her wife and 15-year-old daughter.
Throughout her years in legal practice, Marti concurrently remained involved in non-profit leadership and higher education. She has served as an adjunct professor for Emory University School of Law and formerly was a Chairperson for the US Lacrosse Board of Directors. She is a board member with the Atlanta Community Food Bank and a Faculty-Staff Council member with the Institute for Shipboard Education. For fun, Marti also is a NCAA and high school women’s lacrosse official where she attempts to chase amazing lacrosse athletes up and down the field.
Marti holds a Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law. She earned her Masters of Education from the University of Florida where she also holds a BA degree in psychology.
