While completing his graduate degree in modern and contemporary global literature at University of Virginia, Martin was awarded the opportunity to sail on his first voyage of Semester at Sea. During the voyage, Martin helped manage the ship’s writing center and assisted as an instructor for the Global Studies course. This experience sparked a desire to live and work abroad, leading to experiences teaching in both Argentina and Japan. Martin is thrilled to return to the floating campus, the MV explorer, and will be once again working as a teaching assistant on board the Spring 2015 voyage of Semester at Sea.
Outside of academia, Martin has worked in the study abroad office of his undergraduate alma mater, where he helped students prepare for their own study abroad experiences. Apart from travel, Martin is interested in photography, hiking, languages, cooking, and hanging out with his dogs.
