Dr. Tharp completed her doctoral studies at The University of Texas at Austin in Marketing, International Business and Latin American Studies. She also holds a B.A. in Spanish, B.B.A. in Marketing and M.B.A. from UT-Austin. She began university teaching as a Fulbright Scholar and Latin American Teaching Fellow at Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, Mexico, and has held tenured positions at both The University of Texas at San Antonio in Marketing, and The University of Texas at Austin in Advertising.  In addition, she has designed and taught executive development programs in Europe, Latin America, North America and Asia, and has held visiting appointments at universities in Mexico, Peru, Chile, and Uruguay. She is currently Senior Lecturer in the Department of Marketing at The University of Texas in San Antonio.

Dr. Tharp’s research centers on international and multicultural marketing and marketing communication. Her most recent book Transcultural Marketing: Building Customer Relationships in Multicultural America will be available in 2014 (M.E.Sharpe).  Her practical experience includes advertising agency work in New York and San Antonio and consultancies with public and private organizations. Her research focused on the U.S. Hispanic market has been presented at international conferences and in refereed journals and books. She continues to do research and consulting in the areas of strategic planning, cultural and qualitative research and multicultural marketing management.

Dr. Tharp currently lives in Fredericksburg, Texas located in the Hill Country where there’s not much to do other than enjoy the wildflowers, fresh peaches, Texas wineries and long, lonesome Texas roads. She practices inter-species communication with a 29-year-old Moluccan cockatoo and a baby African Gray parrot.
