Joining the staffing team for the Fall 2018 Voyage is a dream come true for Melissa Emerson who is currently the Director of the Student Resolution Center (SRC), and has worked at Colorado State University (CSU) since 2005. Melissa plays a critical role supporting conflict resolution initiatives on campus, serving as a senior university student conduct officer, and providing leadership in managing crisis situations related to students. Melissa also served as the Associate Director of Conflict Resolution Services and managed interpersonal, organizational and community conflicts involving the CSU community. She’s provided conflict prevention strategies, education, coaching and mediation services and was instrumental in creating innovative educational workshops, impact panels and ongoing partnerships with the courts through a through a collaborative restorative justice diversion process. Prior to her time at the SRC, Melissa served as the Community Liaison, a shared position with the City of Fort Collins and CSU, whose role is to foster partnerships between the University and the City of Fort Collins. Melissa further contributes to the CSU community by serving as a University Mediator and as an Equal Opportunity Coordinator for employment searches on campus. Melissa earned her Master’s Degree in Conflict Analysis & Resolution from George Mason University and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology/Justice Studies from Montana State University.
Her passion for travelling and adventure started as a teenager with a cross-country road trip from her home town in upstate New York to Montana where she instantly fell in love with Big Sky Country. Ever since that journey, she’s considered the Rocky Mountains her home. When she’s not working on campus, she’s enjoying the outdoors and the adventure of parenthood alongside her partner, Eric with their two children, Liv and Chance.
