Spring 2022: Mediterranean Exploration
Resident Director

Michael Mann

Mike Mann is thrilled to be joining the Semester at Sea for his first voyage serving as a Resident Director in Spring 2022! Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mike comes from a family of public servants: his dad was a firefighter, his mom was a nurse, and his sister works for the San Francisco Food Bank. Mike is a proud alumni of Oregon State University, where he majored in Political Science and minored in US History, and Illinois State University, where he earned an M.S. in College Student Personnel Administration. Mike was inspired by accomplishing beyond what he thought a college experience could be, and is passionate about helping students find their niche on campus and explore their roles in their communities during and after college. Mike’s previous work includes advising student leaders and service-learning programs at Illinois State University, interning in Orientation at SUNY Oneonta, and serving as a student leadership and organization advisor in residential education at Western Oregon University. Currently, Mike serves as a Senior Conduct Coordinator in the Center for Student Conduct at UC Berkeley.  Away from Cal, Mike coaches the girls’ volleyball team at his former high school as well as youngsters through club volleyball. If he’s not coaching or playing volleyball on the hard court or sand court, you’ll find him in a glaring contest with his cat Mac (who is skipping this voyage).
Mike has been fortunate to participate in truly special international opportunities.  Mike’s first time out of the country was to France and Europe for a high school educational program.  During his senior year in college, Mike interned at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games with the National Broadcasting Company (NBC). Continuing his passion for service-learning, Mike served as a staff advisor on a service-learning trip with Students Helping Honduras in El Progreso, Honduras.  Mike is grateful for the opportunity for yet another unique experience that only Semester at Sea can offer, and to share it with students and staculty.  Let’s go!
