Michele Faris

Prior to moving to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1975, Dr. Faris received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a Master of Education degree in College Counseling from Kent State University.  After working at various local agencies including Larimer County Community Corrections, Health & Human Services and Mental Health (Drug and Alcohol and Child and Family Teams,) Dr. Faris received her Psy.D. from the University of Northern Colorado in 1988. After completing her internship at the CSU Counseling Center, she went on to work in private practice.  In 1996, Dr. Faris returned to CSU as the Coordinator of the Employee Assistance Program, providing individual counseling, training and leadership and organizational development services to CSU employees. In 2004, Dr. Faris transferred to the CSU Health Network as a senior staff psychologist. Her responsibilities there include individual, group and couples counseling, supervision of master’s and doctoral students and oversight of requests for medical records and psychological assistance animals. In 2015, Dr. Faris was awarded the Student Affairs Division Quality Service Award.  Since 2012, Dr. Faris has completed three training programs with Dr. Brené Brown, Ph.D., LMSW, who is a research professor at the University Of Houston Graduate College Of Social Work and an internationally known researcher and trainer in the area of shame and vulnerability.  Dr. Faris  is a Certified trainer for the Daring Way™ and Rising Strong™ which are  psycho educational curricula developed by Dr. Brown.

In addition, Dr. Faris teaches an annual undergraduate summer class entitled, “The Psychology of Happiness.” She also maintains a small private practice.

Dr. Faris is passionate about her work with emerging adults at CSU and her role in helping students discover the riches of this stage of life. She also understands the educational value of traveling the world, having been an exchange student at the Universidad De Las Americas in Puebla, Mexico and a visitor to a number of European countries. This will be her first voyage with Semester At Sea.
