Nor Lisa Sulaiman

Nor Lisa Sulaiman hails from the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia a multicultural country located in Southeast Asia. She is currently a faculty member, senior research and Head of Center of Research at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), a technical university that educates and trains students to become competent Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) practitioners for industries and businesses. She acquired B.Sc. (Hons.) in Electronic Communication Engineering and M.Ed. in Technical Education, from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She continued her quest for knowledge by earning her Ph.D. in Education and Human Resource Studies from Colorado State University (CSU) in 2012 and returned to School of Education, CSU in 2017 as post doctoral fellowship and visiting professor for two years.

Dr. Sulaiman’s research work focuses on critical thinking and instruction by investigating strategies to infuse critical thinking skills and she is expanding her research into metacognition and related thinking skills that can improve individual’s cognitive abilities in learning and teaching. She is also actively conducting research on educational policy and related studies within the context of TVET. Some of her success stories of her research career are Malaysian TVET policy project under the Ministry of Higher Education and Malaysian National Occupational Skills Standards project collaborating with the Ministry of Human Resources. Likewise, she has worked with colleagues from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, China and Germany in research, publications, and consultations within her area of expertise.

Dr. Sulaiman enjoys travelling and has visited and lived in places such as Japan, New Zealand, Indonesia, Cambodia, China, Spain and many more. Given the opportunity to join Semester at Sea, Spring 2020 as Interport Lecturer will allow her to enhance professional and personal growth through sharing her passion in education and her beautiful Malaysia as well as learning different perspectives from diverse people around the globe.
