Professor Miller is Associate Professor of English and Co-Director of the Writing Center at
Davidson College. His B.A. is from The College of Wooster, and he received an M.A. in
English, M.A. in philosophy, and a Ph.D. in English from Ohio State University. He teaches
courses in nonfiction writing, film and media studies, and literary theory. He has particular
interests in composition theory, writing-across-the-curriculum, documentary film, literacy
and technology, and narrative theory. His most recent publications concern documentary film
theory and theoretical frameworks for thinking about how writing (and writing instruction)
relate to technology. Recent documentary collaborations include interviews of philosophers
(Philosophers on Books) and studies of campus culture (What Should the Core Values of
Davidson Be?). In 2010 he was selected to attend the Japan Studies Association Freeman
Summer Institute on Japan. He has also led multi-month bicycle trips in Europe and Canada.
