Ruth Mason has enjoyed a career in international education, primarily in study abroad. She was the Director of International Education for fifteen years at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota, and Senior Study Abroad Advisor for eight years at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota before retiring in summer 2008.
She majored in Spanish and English at the University of Redlands in California and received an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin in Comparative Literature.
More recently, she accompanied her husband on his Fulbright assignment to Montenegro in Spring 2009 and enjoyed a month of informal birding in the rainforest of Costa Rica in February 2011. Over the years, she has lived abroad in Spain, Japan, Mexico, England and Germany. This voyage offers opportunities to pursue her interests in literature, world music, textiles, and literacy in the lively company of the student travelers of all ages on the MV Explorer.
