Sally Hay grew up in Southern California and received her Bachelor’s degree from Occidental College. Hay moved to Boston in the mid-1970’s and obtained her Master’s Degree from Simmons College School of Social Work. After working for twenty years in an agency in Providence, RI , she made the move to private practice for another twenty years. She has long been active in the RI LGBT community and in recent years had a leadership role in creating the RI affiliate of SAGE (Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders.) Her work with SAGE has allowed her to develop her expertise as a trainer and as a policy advocate. Her professional and volunteer efforts have earned her the YWCA Woman of Achievement Award, SAGE-USA Heroes of Pride and the RI-NASW Nancy H. Gewirtz Social Action Award. Having joined her partner (Deirdre Bird) for part of the Spring 2009 SAS voyage, Hay is excited about being a part of the Sp17 shipboard community and is looking forward to all of the amazing people, places and experiences on the horizon.
