Scott Clucas is a man of diverse interests and experiences. He studied Industrial Arts and Industrial Technology at California State University Long Beach where he earned his BA and MA degrees. His formal education continued at Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he graduated with a Ph.D. in Technology Education. His particular area of academic and professional interest is construction technology and management. Scott is currently putting this background and his hand-on skills to work in Japan where he and his wife are actively involved in renovating and converting, what once was, a company vacation retreat into a home and inn.
Professionally Scott has worked as a carpenter, owned a lumber company, held other management positions in the lumber and construction industries, taught university courses in Construction Management and Industrial Technology, and was president of a construction company. He has also served overseas as a diplomat in embassies of the United States in Tokyo, Doha, and Buenos Aires.
Scott is a native Californian and speaks English fluently. He studied Spanish while in school and more intensively at the Foreign Service Institute. He uses Japanese daily but still has a lot to learn.
Art is one of Scott’s passions. He loves to draw and take photographs. Scott has a black belt in Aikido. He enjoys weight lifting, surfing and hiking.
