Smithsonian Institute

Dr. Seabird McKeon is a Natural Historian and Biodiversity Scientist.  A Research Associate of the Smithsonian Institution, his work focuses on the ecology and systematics of biodiverse marine communities, with particular attention to the role of multi-species mutualisms, facilitation, and diversity-enabled resilience to environmental stressors.  He has participated in global expeditions of tropical biodiversity in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian ocean basins while maintaining ecological research programs in the South Pacific and Caribbean.  Now leading efforts to use citizen science to investigate patterns of global change, Dr. McKeon is investigating the response of global diversity to environmental challenges from the arctic to the equator.
