Shaun N. Crisler (He/Him/His) has been committed to higher education and student success as a professional for 15 years and currently serves as the Assistant Vice President for Residence Life and Housing at SUNY Oswego in New York. He has served in several roles within Housing and Residence Life with the primary goal to help create positive living and learning experiences for all students. By working with faculty, campus partners, and staff, Shaun looks for opportunities to collaborate with a focus on student success and retention.
Shaun actively writes and presents on topics such as professional development, career planning, intercultural competence, assessment, and professional recruitment/selection. He is currently a doctoral student in the Higher Education Administration Ph.D. program at Illinois State University (ISU) in Normal, Illinois. Shaun holds a B.S. in Biology, a M.Ed. in Adult Education from Northern Illinois University (NIU), and a MIRHR in Labor Relations and Human Resources from The Ohio State University (OSU). In 2018, he attained his Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM – SCP) certification.
Shaun actively works with students and professionals to increase their intercultural competence by facilitating workshops and through study abroad activities. Shaun has been a member of the Semester at Sea family for more than twenty years. He first sailed as a student on the Fall 2000 voyage and returned as the Assistant Dean of Students for two summer voyages: SUM09 and SUM12. On the Spring 2018 voyage, Shaun served as the Assistant Executive Dean (AED) and has been accompanied by his wife, Dr. Kelly L. Crisler, and two daughters, Amiah and Aubrey, on his last three voyages.
Shaun is committed to the program and looks forward to serving in the role of Executive Dean for the Spring 2022 voyage.
