This will be Sheila’s sixth voyage with Semester at Sea. Her husband, Michael Kaloyanides, is a professor of ethnomusicology, so she has had the privilege to accompany him on 5 previous voyages. This is their second SAS voyage Around the World!! Sheila’s professional life included a career with the American Heart Association as a development manager and coordinator for Women’s Health. After leaving she taught in inner city schools, mostly 6th and 7th grade. She retired in 2015. Sheila has been very active politically in her community holding positions on the Board of Education and serving as a selectman for their home town.
With all that behind her, she finds herself in the wonderful position of being a grandmother to three beautiful children and watching the lives of her three adult children evolve as they now journey in their professional and family lives. Sheila finds great pleasure in solitary walks and meditation. She has been on two, seven-day silent retreats with her daughter. She is hoping to find the time to do more.
Every journey is a new experience. Sheila looks forward to the wonders she will encounter and the friends she will make on the Fall 2018 voyage.
