Stephen Preece is an Associate Professor at the Lazaridis School of Business, Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. With a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in Strategy and International Business, Dr. Preece is an award-winning instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience in the management field.
Stephen’s research focus includes addressing the challenges of managing cultural organizations, with a particular interest in arts entrepreneurship. Other areas of interest include managing sponsorships, engaging in partnerships, understanding audiences, and social media applications within the arts field. He has published over 30 refereed journal articles and presented as many papers at conferences the world over.
During his last sabbatical, Stephen founded a social enterprise in the arts, the Grand River Jazz Society, which is now five years old and presents over 100 headline professional performances per year in The Jazz Room, Waterloo, Ontario.
Stephen has a particular interest in challenging traditional business models, seeking variety and inspiration through international comparative entrepreneurship. He has traveled the world in this pursuit and brings this real-world insight into the classroom. Dr. Preece is currently the Academic Director of the Schlegel Centre for Entrepreneurship, focusing on providing an innovative entrepreneurship curriculum across all university disciplines.
