Stuart Schwartz is Clinical Professor at the University of California -San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF). He received an AB in History from Cornell University 1956 and an MD from the State University of New York 1960 . His Postgraduate work in Psychiatry was at UCSF where he later served as the Director of Postgraduate Education. He was Professsor of Psychiatry at Robert Wood Johnson Rutgers Medical School from 1985 -2001. His research and clinical work in psychiatry has specialized in schizophrenia, major affective disorders and international mental health. He has been the recipient of three Senior Scholar Fulbright awards with work in India and Sri Lanka as well a Wellcome Fellowship in London. He is an active runner (Boston Marathon 2011) cyclist and scuba diver. He sailed on the Semester at Sea 2010 voyage around the world and is delighted to once again return to the MV Explorer for another voyage.
