Terry Bangs

Terry Bangs has spent the past 45 years teaching or working as a consultant in business, organizational, and intercultural communication. After earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication (radio, TV, and film) from the University of Michigan, Terry began a 20-year Air Force career, where he flew fighters in Vietnam, the U.S., and Europe, alternating with tours on the faculty of the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs. After receiving his PhD in organizational communication from the University of Denver, Terry returned to the Academy as associate professor and deputy head of the Department of English, where he taught courses in technical and business writing, advanced composition, and public speaking. Retiring from the Air Force in 1988, Terry joined Hewitt Associates, a global management-consulting firm, where he organized and led a team of training professionals helping clients communicate benefits, compensation, and retirement plans to employees living and working in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Terry was a member of the SAS faculty for the Fall ’09 voyage—the 100th.
