Victoria Pitts-Taylor is a Professor of Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Sociology, and Science in Society and Sociology at Wesleyan University. She is author of three books: In the Flesh: the Cultural Politics of Body Modification; Surgery Junkies: Wellness and Pathology in Cosmetic Culture; and The Brain’s Body: Neuroscience and Corporeal Politics, which won the Philosophy of Science Association’s Feminist Philosophy of Science Prize in 2016. She is also Editor of the two-volume Cultural Encyclopedia of the Body and the anthology Mattering: Feminism, Science and Materialism. Her articles have appeared in such journals as Hypatia, Qualitative Sociology, Health, Body & Society, Studies in Gender and Sexuality, and WSQ. She is a past recipient of the American Sociological Association’s Advancement of the Discipline Award.
