Dr. Wakiuru Wamwara-Mbugua is an associate professor of marketing at the Raj Soin College
of Business and Economics at Wright State University. Dr. Wamwara-Mbugua earned her
bachelor’s degree in computer science from LeMoyne Owen College, MBA from the Owen
Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, and her Ph.D. from the Fogelman
College of Business and Economics at the University of Memphis. Dr. Wamwara-Mbugua’s
dissertation won the ACR Jagdish Sheth 2002 Dissertation Award for the cross-cultural category
(only two awards are given per year). Her primary areas of research interest are in the areas
of international marketing, cross-cultural consumer behavior and immigrant acculturation.
Dr. Wamwara-Mbugua has presented her research at international conferences in the United
States, Australia, Kenya and New Zealand. She has given a lecture in Germany. Dr. Wamwara-
Mbugua has published her research in the Journal Business Research, Journal of Consumer
Behavior, Event Management Journal, Advances in Consumer Research, Journal of Global
Business Management, Journal of Immigrant and Refugee Studies, African Journal of Business
Management, Journal of International Management Studies among others. Dr. Wamwara-
Mbugua speaks four different languages and has traveled to over ten countries. She is a member
of Alpha Kappa Epsilon International Business Honor Society and a Phi Beta Delta Honor
Society for International Scholars. She is also a member of the Association for Consumer
Researchers and the PhD project. Prior to commencing a life in academia she worked for the
Kenyan government, the Kenya Association of Manufactures and the United Nations Human
Settlements Programme (UN–HABITAT)
