Wendy Zomparelli

Wendy Zomparelli is the former president and publisher of The Roanoke (Va.) Times.  She began her newspaper career in Raleigh, N.C., first working for The Raleigh Times and later for The News & Observer as a staff writer and copy editor.  In her two decades at The Roanoke Times, she worked in a number of capacities, including features editor, editor, and vice president and general manager.  She served as chair of Virginia Associated Press Newspapers and as a juror for both the Pulitzer Prizes and the Scripps Howard National Journalism Awards.  Upon retiring as publisher, she was named the Reynolds Distinguished Visiting Professor in Washington and Lee University’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communications.  A graduate of Cornell University, Zomparelli now lives in Charlottesville, Va., and writes fiction.
