Portugal’s most famous musical form is the Fado (“fate”). It is urban music, and its origins are uncertain but certainly involve influences from Portugal’s overseas explorations. The essence of Fado is Saudade, “to miss”, which is carried in a lyrical and sentimental expression of a singer accompanied by the Portuguese guitar. Before heading the Bairro Alto quarter, enjoy a scenic drive with panoramic views of the city. Enjoy the views over S. Pedro de Alcântara Viewpoint and a walk along the narrow streets and alleys up to the Adega Machado restaurant, established since 1937.  Feel the “Fadistagem” which refers to the interaction between the Fado singers and guitar players, whistle they get together and rehearsal. Enjoy snacks and non-alcoholic beverages included.
