A Note to Parents About Health and Safety
The safety, health, and wellness of all of our participants is the top priority of Semester at Sea. We uphold the highest quality standards in every aspect of our operations and participant services-pre-departure, at sea, in port, and in country. We have more than 50 years of experience preparing our participants for successful study abroad education and have a vision for carrying that track record into the future in a complex and ever-changing world.

A Proven Track Record for Safety
The Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) and Semester at Sea program have close to 50 years of experience in global education travel. Since 1963, more than 55,000 students have participated in our unique study abroad program and we have launched more than 100 international voyages. As part of our In-country Programming, we work with established and reputable travel and tour agents in more than 50 countries. We organize close to 300 field trips each voyage with a total student participation of more than 5,000. Our traveling campus, the MV World Odyssey, consistently receives high scores on U.S. Public Health and Coast Guard vessel inspections.
Our Proactive Mentality
Semester at Sea takes a proactive, preventative, and community-based approach to safety, health, and wellness. We recommend that you read Responsible Study Abroad: Good Practices for Health & Safety (PDF), published by The Interassociational Advisory Committee on Safety and Responsibility in Study Abroad before you or someone you know embarks on a study-abroad experience.
