HBCU Scholarship Description

The Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) is pleased to offer a $10,000 scholarship for students attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCU’s) or Predominately Black Institutions to participate in spring or fall Semester at Sea voyages. All participants receive a full semester’s worth of undergraduate credits from Colorado State University.

ISE believes that international exposure is a critical element in today’s undergraduate education, offering students a real-life global education experience that will give them an edge in this highly competitive job market. The program is open to students, regardless of their major.


To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:

Voyage Leadership

During the voyage, HBCU Scholars will be expected to serve as ambassadors for Semester at Sea. This entails posting pictures and video reflections of their experience on social media, participating in the Vicarious Voyage and Diversity Peer Mentor Programs and involvement with student affinity groups.
