Can Gio Biosphere Reserve is located in the coastal district southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. It covers 75,740 hectares and is dominated by mangroves home to both salt water and brackish water species. The mangroves in Can Gio have a high biodiversity with more than 200 species of fauna and 52 species of flora. The effects of the wars on these ecosystems have been devastating and enormous efforts have been made by local people to rehabilitate the mangroves. Today it is one of the most extensive sites of rehabilitated mangroves in the world.
After taking an eco-adventure speedboat tour through scenic canals to the mangrove forests, at the gate way to Can Gio stop at a local riverside market where you can absorb all the sounds, colors and aromas of this amazingly fertile region.
Then, we leave behind the leafy palms and coconut trees and are soon enveloped in a dusky twilight world, surrounded by towering mangrove trees. See villagers hand-knotting nets before spreading them out to dry in the sun at a local fishing hamlet. Spot monkeys and gibbon swinging through the trees at Vam Sat. Feed the crocodiles at the crocodile reserve and paddle around the still waters of the Bat Lagoon in a small wooden boat.
An assortment of pastries, fresh fruits and Vietnamese coffee will be served as we depart Saigon. Vietnamese specialties will be served for lunch.
