Itinerary

Day 1

Tuesday, 21 February 2017

Transfer to the airport (about 1.5 hours’ drive) to fly to Heho . On arrival at Heho, enjoy a leisurely bike ride from Thaung Lay Lone to Indein. This scenic 3-hour mostly flat bike trip passes sugarcane and garlic fields, along with Khaung Dine village with some beautiful views on Inle Lake. On arrival in Indein, visit the famous ruins. Transfer to to the hotel and retire for the evening.

Day 2

Wednesday, 22 February 2017

Inle Lake in southern Shan State is a vast natural lake surrounded by traditional Shan villages. On the lake itself the Intha people have been living for many centuries in villages built entirely on stilts on the lake.

This morning, take a boat tour around the lake to discover the natural beauty of the area, visit the floating gardens, see the famous leg rowers and have tea at a local family’s house. On and around the lake, traditional markets are held in different villages according to a 5-day rotating schedule. Today, visit a colorful market frequented by Shan and PaO people living nearby. Afterward, visit a local cheroot factory where the Burmese cigars are made, the floating tomato gardens, and Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda. Enjoy a traditional Intha lunch served by a local family. Finally,  visit a weaving factory before transferring back to the hotel.

Day 3

Thursday, 23 February 2017

One of the distinctive hill tribes from Shan State are the Pa O who are known for their navy blue clothes and colorful red or orange turban, along with their skills in farming and trading. During this day, get to know life as the Pa O live it.

Begin with  a 2.5 hour walk (a bit uphill) to arrive in a Pa O village. Engage in a discussion with the monks, and be invited to wear the traditional dress. Continue about 30 minutes (mainly flat) and arrive in a village where a traditional Pa O lunch will be served served with dishes like ginger soup, pumpkin leaf salad and zucchini leaf salad. Time to relax and prepare for the afternoon walk. Then trek for 2.5 hours with stunning views on the lake and plantations with crops like ginger, garlic and turmeric. Just before boarding the boat to bring you back to the hotel, stop for a last beautiful view over the lake.
