Leaving Saigon this morning you drive toward Ben Tre province that is located on a branch of the Mekong River. During the drive you travel over the busy road network into the surrounding countryside where you will pass lush rice paddies that are carefully tended by the farmers. Then, you will board your motorized sampan for a unique experience on the mighty Mekong Delta waterways.

The boat will cruise along the Ham Luong river and stop off at various local workplaces to give you a picture of how the local economy works, including brick work – where bricks are still painstakingly made by hand; a coconut processing workshop – where you can sample fresh coconut and see how every single part of this versatile nut is turned into food and other products; and a mat weaving house, where straw mats are woven using a hand loom

The boat will then stop at a quiet village where you can take a short walk to experience a real Delta village. The excitement begins as you board your xe loi (a kind of motorized rickshaw) and travel through fruit orchards before stopping at a riverside restaurant for a delicious and filling lunch. The lunch will feature such local specialties as elephant-ear fish and river shrimp washed down with some cold drinks or beers if you wish.

After lunch you may wish to take a short break in the garden or wander along the riverbanks with the local guide or just simply board a non-motorized sampan for a relaxing trip along narrow canals back to the waiting boat. Disembark the boat at the city side for the drive back to Ho Chi Minh City
