Enjoy some time in nature in the beautiful Kerala countryside. This program includes trekking for two days (sleeping in tents.) The trekking route is through the beautiful Western Ghats of Kerala in South India full of rainforests, Tea Gardens and lots of flora and fauna. Apart from trekking this program also includes a visit to a Tea Factory and Museum and also a welfare center supporting children with disabilities.

Begin the program with a drive to Munnar, a little more than four hours from Cochin. Munnar is one of the most popular hill stations in India located 5000 ft above sea level and situated at the confluence of three mountain streams. Upon reaching Munnar, check into the hotel and enjoy lunch. Spend the afternoon breathing in the fresh air on a leisurely walk through green plantations of cardamom and tea. Enjoy dinner at the hotel before retiring for the evening.

Spend the day visiting three local organizations and learn about tea production, the beautiful natural surrounding, and social services in the area. Begin with a visit to the Rajamali Wildlife sanctuary*, home to over half of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. Next, visit the Tea Factory & Museum, and learn about one of the biggest industries of the area. Observe the different stages of tea processing and learn about the tea varieties produced in Kerala. Finally visit Srushti, a welfare center owned by the tea factory whose motto is ‘ they who do not dare to win have already lost’. This center empowers children with disabilities and helps secure better futures for them.
Enjoy dinner at the hotel and rest up for a full day of trekking.
*The Rajamalai Sanctuary closes in February each year for the calving season of the goats. In case the closure extends into March, the guides will point out the Niligiri Tahr along the trekking routes so that you will not miss out on anything.

Wake up early and prepare for a full day of trekking through the beautiful hills. After packing and checking out of the hotel, take a scenic drive through the tea estates and enjoy a cup of tea before starting the hike. The day’s hike will begin at a height of 1750 meters and end at 2300 meters. At the end of the hike, arrive at the comfortable tent camp situated by the side of gurgling mountain streams at Rodho-valley. Take in the beautiful natural brooks and the meadows of Western Ghats before retiring for the evening.

– Trek from 2300 Meters with ascends and descends.
– Reach summit height of peak Meesapulimalai – the second highest peak in South India
– Camp at a height of 2160 Meters.
– Overnight and dinner at the Tented Camp.
The second full day of trekking will begin with a summit of Meesapulimalai, the second highest peak in South India at 2637 meters. Here, take in the spectacular view of both the low land of Tamil Nadu, the highest tea estate, and beautiful lakes. After a short refreshment break, hike a short steep downhill towards the highest tea estate in the world. Walk through the tea plantations up to the factory, and enjoy a fresh cup of tea which was picked, processed, and made at the plantation. Continue hiking toward the camp, through a beautiful valley where rhododendrons and pine forests grows undisturbed. Finally, retire to camp for the evening.

Wake up early for one of the most beautiful sunrises. Truly a once in a lifetime experience. After breakfast, trek through the green carpeted tea estates to Suryanelly. Finish with an early picnic lunch before driving the four hours back to Cochin.

The days of trekking will involve high level of physical fitness.
The tented accommodation and other facilities during the trekking will be basic.
