Life in the villages of Kerala moves at an amazingly slow rate. The locals engage in fishing, farming, jute making and handicrafts. Upon arrival, board traditional, non-mechanized boats for a short backwater cruise to an island where you can see many artisans at work engaged in coir making, stone cutting, basket making, weaving and pottery making. Next, you will visit the Khadi Weaving Center and Vaikom Temple before enjoying a traditional lunch served on plantain leaves – a perennial favorite!

“I love this field program. I have a whole new respect for the people living here.” – Nicole, SP’14 Voyage
