MV World Odyssey arrives in Vietnam

At 12:00 hours on Tuesday, November 14, the MV World Odyssey reached Ho Chi Minh City, the capital city of Vietnam and where students will start exploring the sixth port of the Fall 2017 Voyage.

Vietnam’s most populous city offers plenty for Semester at Sea Voyagers to do and see during their five days in port. After the opportunity to explore Ho Chi Minh during orientation tours during the first day in port, voyagers can learn more about Vietnamese cooking during a culinary challenge, and explore Saigon will the help of locals.

Voyagers looking to get out of the city have no shortage of field programs available to them as well: students will explore life in the Mekong Delta as part of a homestay program, visit the Chi Chi Tunnels to learn more about Vietnam’s history, tour Ha Long Bay by boat, and even step outside Vietnam to visit Cambodia and Angkor Wat, another wonder of the world.

Semester at Sea Voyagers will also have parents visiting them during their stay in Vietnam as part of the Fall 2017 parent trip. To see what students and their parents are doing, make sure to follow Semester at Sea on Snapchat.

Let’s hear it from Voyagers!

“For my Coastal Ecology class with Dr. Robert Smith, we are going to go to a mangrove plantation and we’re going to support the conservation efforts there by planting a couple mangrove trees and learning about how integral mangroves are to Vietnam’s environment. We’ll also get to go to a crocodile farm and learn about the environment in Vietnam and what’s being done with the conservation efforts. I’m very excited!”
