When does Homecoming registration open and close?
Registration opens on Tuesday, August 3 at 9:00 MDT and ends on Tuesday, November 30 at midnight. Unfortunately, we cannot process any registrations after this date.
Are the rates listed per person or per cabin?
The rates are listed in four price categories. Each category has options for single, double, or triple occupancy.
Are kids welcome on the Homecoming Voyage?
Yes, children over the age of two are invited on the voyage as long as they have been vaccinated against COVID-19. Semester at Sea is requiring vaccinations for all guests in accordance with entry rules into the destinations that will welcome the MV World Odyssey. Children are welcome to join all activities on the ship under supervision of their parents.
How much do children/teenagers/under 18 years cost?
The cabin rates apply for each person in the cabin. For example, if you are bring a 16-year old child, you will pay the full cabin price, or each person will pay the double occupancy rate.
May I invite family members, friends, and significant others who are not SAS alumni?
Absolutely! All Semester at Sea alumni and friends are welcome, including prospective student and Lifelong Learner voyagers.
How will I be assigned a cabin?
When you submit your registration, you will select one of four price/cabin groups. Upon receipt of your deposit, you will be assigned the best cabin possible within your pricing group. It pays to register early!
If I am traveling alone, will ISE put me in a room with someone else traveling alone?
ISE will not match random roommates. All passengers traveling alone will pay the single occupancy rate for their desired cabin category.
Is there a discount for groups?
There are no group discounts available.
Does everyone need a passport?
Yes, all passengers, including children, are required to have a valid passport. A passport card will not suffice. All passports must be valid through at least July 2, 2022.
Are meals included in the registration rate?
Yes. Meals, taxes, and passage fare are included. Alcoholic beverages, food from the snack bars, crew gratuities, and in-country program fees are not included and will be charged to your shipboard account. You will set up your shipboard account upon boarding using a valid credit card.
What should I do if I have special needs?
There is a place on the registration form to list any special needs you may have. Traveling on a ship can pose many challenges for those individuals with physical impairments, including moving on uneven surfaces and steep gangway steps, or those with special dietary needs. Semester at Sea remains committed to providing travel, work, and study opportunities for everyone. We will evaluate each situation individually and make every possible effort to accommodate the special needs of each participant.
How can I change some of my registration information for me and/or my guest(s)?
You can make changes to your registration by calling 800.854.0195 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
When will I pay for the voyage?
A deposit of $500 per person in your party will be collected upon registration. The remaining balance will be due by November 15, 2021. You will also be required to provide a credit card to the Purser’s Desk on December 28 for on-board purchases.
What if I need to cancel?
There is no penalty if you cancel by November 15, 2021. Cancellations made on November 16 or after will result in the forfeiture of full deposit.
What if Semester at Sea cancels the voyage?
If circumstances outside our control require us to cancel the voyage, we will issue a full refund, including deposit. While we do not anticipate this outcome, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance from your airline or an independent travel insurance provider.
Health & Safety
Is a COVID-19 vaccine required to sail?
Yes. All passengers must present proof of COVID-19 vaccination, with the final dose of the vaccine administered at least 14 days prior to sailing.
Each passenger will be required to submit a health history form (provided to you upon registration) as well as a copy of their COVID-19 vaccination record. You must also bring the physical card as well as a copy of it to the ship in December. You may send your vaccination proof and completed health history form to email@example.com by November 30, 2021.
Communication will be sent to all passengers within 30 days of sailing to share the latest requirements for each port call. Any vaccine that is approved by a national or global public health agency will be accepted for sailing.
All Semester at Sea crew are required to be vaccinated.
Is a face mask required on board the MV World Odyssey?
Guests and crew will be required to wear a mask on board. Face masks must be worn in all public settings regardless of physical distancing measures. Face masks are not required in your cabin or while you are eating or drinking. Please note that neck gaiters, open chin bandanas and scarves, and face masks with valves do not meet health authority guidelines and will not be permitted. We will continually evaluate these requirements and make updates as local public health standards evolve.
Will there be extra sanitization procedures during the voyage?
Rest assured that the housekeeping crew will be cleaning and sanitizing common areas of the ship continuously throughout the day, with daily deep cleanings. Hand sanitization stations will be plentiful throughout the MV World Odyssey.
Will passengers be given a COVID-19 test prior to embarkation and/or disembarkation?
Semester at Sea’s health team will administer COVID-19 testing (a rapid antigen test) to each passenger prior to embarking. A negative test is required to sail. All passengers should expect one additional screening (also a rapid antigen test) at some point during the voyage. If that test yields a positive result, our health team will follow up with a PCR test to confirm results.
Upon disembarkation on January 2, all passengers returning to the United States will be required to take a PCR or rapid antigen test. Please note that this is NOT a Semester at Sea requirement. It is set forth by the CDC and the State Department and you can read more information online.

On-Ship and Programming
Will there be Wifi on the ship?
Complimentary Wifi will be available on the Homecoming Voyage. We also recommend setting up an international plan on your cell phone so you may easily connect to email and phone services during our days in port.
What type of outlets are on the MV World Odyssey?
All outlets on the MV World Odyssey are European (220v). You must bring an adaptor/converter if you want to plug in your electronic devices while on the ship.
What is the attire for the Homecoming Voyage?
Casual dress is appropriate while on-board, with cocktail or dressy attire for the New Year’s Eve Celebration. Consider bringing comfortable walking shoes, a sweater or jacket (as the air conditioning on board can be chilly) and a swim suit for the indoor swimming pool and spa.
At this time of year, weather in this region of Europe is typically in the 50s during the day and the 40s at night. It is cooler at sea, so warm clothes are highly recommended. Rain is also common during December and early January, so we recommend packing a travel umbrella or rain jacket.
What time can I board the MV World Odyssey for the Homecoming Voyage?
Boarding will take place from 14:00-17:00 on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, Porto di Napoli (Stazione Marittima cruise terminal).
If you wish to board the ship on Monday, December 27, you may do so for an additional $200 per cabin. There are two boarding groups: 1-3 pm and 7-9pm. We will contact you to sign up for a boarding window.
What do I do with my luggage when I get to the ship?
You will be given a luggage tag with your name and cabin assignment listed. Our ship staff will deliver your luggage to your cabin.
I'm traveling with my spouse or partner. Is it possible to push the single beds together?
Unfortunately, we are not able to push single beds together. Most double and triple cabins are set up for the student voyagers, and beds cannot be pushed together as they are bolted to the cabin floors. If you prefer a queen sized bed, you must register for the Captain or First Mate cabin option.
How do I find out about things to see and do in Ajaccio and Cagliari?
Information about things to do and see during our days in port will be posted on the Homecoming Voyage website shortly. We are not offering any coordinated in-country programming/activities during the voyage.
Are there any special plans for New Year's Eve?
Yes! We will be hosting a New Year’s Eve dinner onboard the MV World Odyssey. The cost is $100 per person for a four-course meal and seating is limited. You must register for the dinner in advance of the voyage and can do so with your voyage registration or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
You are also welcome to enjoy dinner in port or in the Lido Restaurant. Beginning at 22:00, a New Year’s Eve Celebration will be held in the Union. All are invited to dance 2021 away and ring in 2022.
Is there anything I cannot bring onto the ship?
No alcohol is permitted to be carried on-board the ship. Please also review the prohibited items list online for more information.
