Start the day with a visit to the Trashy Bags Company, a social enterprise based in Accra, Ghana that makes recycled eco-friendly gifts from plastic trash in order to create employment opportunities and manage waste in Ghana. Plastic trash builds up around communities because of inadequate garbage management systems. The company collects items like water bottles and grocery bags and repurposes them into laptop bags, backpacks, purses, wallets, shopping bags, and other reusable items.

We will join the team in the morning during a walking-tour around the streets of Accra, collecting trashed plastic items, which we will then take to the factory to clean. Afterward, learn the process of creating something new and reusable from the waste collected.

After, enjoy an appetizing homemade Ghanaian lunch with local family. Spend time engaging in dialogue with your hosts about their lives before departing for the ship.
