MGT 475 International Business Management [CRN 78173]
Overview of Course
Multinational corporations: their scope, activities, managerial problems and decisions.
Global business today is shaped not only by the forces of globalization but recently also by rising trends of deglobalization, protectionism, and tariffs that challenge traditional models of international expansion. This course explores the fundamental concepts and strategies involved in managing business operations across international borders. It introduces students to the complexities multinational corporations face as they compete across borders in an era of both integration and fragmentation. Students will examine frameworks for international business and global value creation while critically assessing how trade barriers, shifting national alliances, and geo-political risks influence managerial decision-making.
Through interactive lectures, case studies, and port-based field experiences, students will explore how organizations adapt to diverse institutional contexts, balance global and local strategies, and build resilience in supply chains and operations. Emphasis will be placed on cross-cultural management, ethical and sustainability challenges, and the strategic implications of tariffs, trade disputes, and regional economic integration.
