Overview of Course

The global phenomenon of tourism carries substantial impacts, some are beneficial while others are harmful. Throughout the course, we will delve into the sociocultural, economic, and environmental impacts of tourism, exploring how they are interrelated and affect different communities and places. We will also consider the importance of responsible and sustainable tourism management and discuss strategies for minimizing negative impacts while maximizing benefits. The course will facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the complexities and challenges of tourism impacts and will equip students with the knowledge and skills to evaluate and manage tourism in a responsible and sustainable manner. The course is designed as an ongoing active-reflective learning experience, based on the most dominant issues of tourism impacts of each country visited in the spring 2024 SAS voyage.
