Semester at Sea expands Fall 2026 Spotlight sailing opportunities for Lifelong Learners due to Brazil, Sri Lanka interest
Due to the popularity of the Fall 2026 Voyage itinerary’s Brazil and Sri Lanka ports of call, Semester at Sea is extending its Lifelong Learning Spotlight segments to allow travelers two new opportunities to visit Brazil and Sri Lanka. While existing reservations will be honored, both confirmed and prospective Lifelong Learners are invited to take advantage of these adjusted itineraries!
Expanded Fall 2026 Spotlight Opportunities:

Segment 1 | 34 nights | Sept. 9 to Oct. 13
The Netherlands-Portugal-Morocco-Brazil
(No change)

Segment 2 | 40 nights, Oct. 13 to Nov. 22
Brazil – St. Helena – South Africa-Mauritius-Sri Lanka
(Previously South Africa – Sri Lanka, 28 nights)

Segment 3 | 29 nights, Nov. 23 to Dec. 22
Sri Lanka-Vietnam-Hong Kong-Thailand
(Previously Vietnam – Thailand, 21 nights)
Semester at Sea typically offers three Spotlight segments on each fall voyage for adults ages 30 and over who want to sail as Lifelong Learners, but do not wish to sail the full voyage. While all segments are nearing capacity, cabins for solo travelers, adults, and families are still available for all three legs. A limited number of full voyage cabins are also still available.
The full Fall 2026 itinerary will see the MV World Odyssey visit 11 countries on four continents. Unlike traditional cruises, Lifelong Learners may audit college classes and lectures with top faculty, meet and mentor college students from around the world, and spend 6 days in most ports of call.
“Due to overwhelming interest in this itinerary, we wanted to open up our Spotlight segments in ways that make all three segments a month or more in length,” says Vera Nicholas, Manager of Lifelong Learning and Partnerships with the Institute for Shipboard Education. “And this while offering our Spotlighters new opportunities to see Brazil or Sri Lanka.”
