Get Involved

When you disembark from your voyage, it’s not the end of your journey with SAS — it’s only the beginning! The voyage continues within each one of us and in each of our lives as we go out into the world as connected and engaged global citizens. From the moment you step off the gangway, you’re officially a lifetime member of the SAS Alumni Association.

Ways to Share

Semester at Sea alumni are the best recruiters and spokespeople for the program.

Sharing your Semester at Sea experience with prospective students, Lifelong Learners, faculty, and staff allows us to help grow our Semester at Sea community around the world! To our alumni — thank you for your sharing your time, talents, and expertise in support of Semester at Sea!

Connect with SAS on Social

Social media is often the first place prospective voyagers explore when considering embarking on a voyage of their own, and it’s a great way for alumni to get involved. Follow, share, retweet, comment, and join the conversation using #SemesterAtSea. Feeling nostalgic? Tag us in a post highlighting some of your favorite pics from your voyage!

Mentor & Network

Global Ambassador Program

Semester at Sea Global Ambassadors are outstanding student leaders who have recently returned from a voyage and are excited to share their experience and encourage others to see the world! This is perfect for students interested in maintaining a strong connection with Semester at Sea after their voyage while sharing their study abroad passion and program knowledge with prospective students via social media, e-mail, or on-campus engagement. As an additional bonus, you can add international education experience to your resume. We look forward to working with you!

Diversity Peer Mentor Program

We are seeking energetic alumni to chat with prospective voyagers from underrepresented backgrounds. If you identify with any of the following, we’d love to connect you with prospective voyagers: low-income, LGBTQIA+, first generation, veteran, physical disability or limited mobility, learning disability, African-American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian/Pacific Islander, Native American, multiracial, or if you identify with a specific religion.

It is an incredible privilege and a joy to be a part of what is really just a remarkable adventure—extraordinary experience for all of us—to be on this voyage.

Semester at Sea changed my life. It is the reason I’m sitting here in this chair today as a State Department Foreign Services Officer.

Semester at Sea has touched me in a way that makes me think about what I want to do and how I want my life to impact people.

I have always loved to travel and Semester at Sea introduced me to places and people that changed my life forever.

Wow! 20 years ago I stepped on the Universe Explorer in Vancouver, WA and my world changed forever. On my SAS journey, I experienced many of the global human rights and environmental issues I was intellectually aware of first hand. Supported by an extraordinary faculty and a cohort of dedicated students, my life path changed dramatically. I now design and facilitate international learning programming for young people at Global Routes and Carpe Diem Education with a commitment to pay forward the learning and transformation I experienced at sea.

    Headshot of Missy Greis

I was a second generation voyager in 1987. My mom completed her voyage in 1963, and my daughter is a Spring 2020 alumna. SAS is life changing. The ability to experience world travel and so many different cultures while gaining academic credit is unequalled, but the lifelong bonds of friendship are invaluable and so precious! As Dean Tymitz says: The best is yet to come.
