SAS and Thunderbird School of Global Management (Arizona State University) Announce New Scholarship

ASU’s Thunderbird School of Global Management undergraduates could receive up to $25,000 toward their Semester at Sea voyage with a new scholarship.

On Wednesday, February 1st, Semester at Sea President Scott Marshall, along with Chair of the Board Greg Chapman, were on hand at the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University to announce the launch of a generous scholarship funded by a Thunderbird and Semester at Sea alumna.

Karen Simon, a Thunderbird (‘83) and Semester at Sea alumna (’79) and a member of Semester at Sea’s Board of Trustees, established the scholarship that will award select Thunderbird undergraduates scholarships of up to $25,000 toward our multi-country, comparative education study abroad program.

Simon, unable to appear in person due to weather-related flight cancellations, joined the event by Zoom to welcome students and recount her affection for both Semester at Sea and Thunderbird, a program she learned about while on her own voyage as a college student.

Simon stated, “I cannot think of a better partnership than one that brings together Semester at Sea and Thunderbird. And, I am thrilled to provide support to one or more high-caliber students to take the learning adventure of a lifetime– Semester at Sea.”
