The Institute for Shipboard Education | Semester at Sea is proud to welcome University of Florida scholars aboard!
Semester at Sea is one of the non-UF programs offered by UF Study Abroad and we welcome UF students to our program nearly every semester.
On this page you’ll learn more about how to apply to Semester at Sea as a UF student. The International Center at the University of Florida is dedicated to helping students excel in a globalized future, both in terms of career readiness and being responsible global citizens. UF Gators travel to hundreds of countries every year, learning to embrace differences and furthering Florida’s educational legacy. Will you be one of them?
ISE has a larger partner institution list and we are currently building out more pages. If you don’t see your home university featured as a partner school, we can likely still work with you and your school to streamline credit transfer.
UF offers hundreds of programs that are made possible through faculty and institutional partnerships. Other programs like Semester at Sea are also available to UF students. If you’re looking to maximize your education at the University of Florida, consider exploring all your options offered through the UF International Center.
As long as third-party programs are accredited (as Semester at Sea is), the UF Study Abroad office will work with you to transfer your credits back to UF.
Since 2018, 31 students from the University of Florida have sailed with Semester at Sea, with more joining our alumni community each year. The ISE and UF teams work together frequently to facilitate academic credit transfer and the application of financial aid for UF students, including the use of Florida Bright Futures funds.
Members of the UF International Center advisory team have even sailed with Semester at Sea, so prospective voyagers are in good hands.
The UF International Center and ISE also share the same values of experiential learning, global comparative education, and fostering positive international relationships.

My time at UF will forever be shaped by the semesters ‘before SAS’ and ‘after SAS.’ While my semester at sea was only one of the eight I spent while at the University of Florida, it forever changed the trajectory of my college experience. To some, it may be a bit unfamothable how three months can have such a great impact on four years, but I believe that shows how incredible Semester at Sea is.
