On January 9, 2014 the Institute for Shipboard Education will host its first public TEDx SemesteratSea event, taking place on board the MV Explorer in San Diego, California. TEDxSemesteratSea | Ripples, Waves, and Wakes: Innovation in Motion will explore how a global perspective can serve as a skipping stone, causing ripples of inspiration that drive an individual’s innovation process.
TED is an annual event that brings together the world's leading thinkers and doers to share ideas that matter in any discipline, technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, business, and development. The talks at the conference, called “TED Talks,” are then made available to watch for free on TED.com. Created in the spirit of TED’s mission, “ideas worth spreading,” the TEDx program is designed to give communities, organizations, and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis.
“Semester at Sea was founded on the notion that ‘ships carry more than cargo, they carry ideas’, and TEDx is the perfect platform for us to showcase that work,” said Luke Jones, Chief of Staff and Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, Institute for Shipboard Education. “We are looking forward to using the history and impact of our program to bring people together and share stories of inspiration, action, change that are changing our world for the better.”
TEDxSemesteratSea will feature a exciting line-up of speakers including Jeff Steitz, CEO & Founder, Serengtee; Jessica Jackley, social entrepreneur and former Chief Marketing Officer, Kiva; George Kembel, Executive Director and Co-Founder, Stanford D.School; and many more.
