Spring 2020 Voyage Now Waitlisted

Spring 2020 Voyage Now Waitlisted

The Spring 2020 Voyage is now full. However, we expect a number of cancellations between now and December 2. We want you to feel fully informed and prepared for what this waitlist status means, so we have outlined some important policies below.

Deposit

Waitlisted students are entitled to a full refund of their deposit if they do not sail. In order to ensure commitment to the voyage, all waitlist deposits will be held until December 2. Should a spot on the voyage not become available by December 2, deposit refunds will be processed. All waitlisted students will be notified if they will be offered a space on the voyage by December 2 at the latest, although it is anticipated that the waitlist will move consistently starting in mid-September.

Medical History Form

Students must complete a Medical History Form (emailed at point of deposit) no later than November 1. A Yellow Fever vaccination is also required for the Spring 2020 itinerary. We strongly recommend that waitlisted students schedule an appointment to obtain the required Yellow Fever vaccine in December; this will ensure students are able to obtain the vaccine despite the national shortage. Should a space not be offered on the voyage, the student may simply cancel the appointment.

Passport and Visas

Students must be in possession of a passport with a minimum of 16 blank visa pages. Additional blank visa pages may be needed for Non U.S. Passport holders.

Depending on when the waitlisted student is offered a place on the voyage, payment of rush fees to expedite visas may be necessary. Students should not start the visa process until they are moved off of the waitlist and can access the necessary documents.

Payment Policies

If moved off of the waitlist and onto the voyage, the student must present full payment or proof of full deferred payment via the Financial Aid Notification form. Please see our tiered policy below:

    1. If moved off of the waitlist prior to September 20, full payment or proof of full payment is due by the standard payment deadline of October 11.
    2. If moved off of the waitlist between September 21 and prior to November 27, full payment is due within 3 weeks or 21 days from the date that the student was offered a space on the voyage.
    3. If moved off of the waitlist after November 27, full payment or proof of full payment is due by December 11; no exceptions.

Financial Aid

Waitlisted students are not eligible to apply for Semester at Sea financial aid – upon being moved off of the waitlist and onto the ship, they will be encouraged to create a unique account in the scholarships portal and apply for any scholarships/grants that are still available.

Cabin Placement

Flexibility is required for waitlisted students with regard to cabin preference and placements. Due to the nature of the waitlist, Semester at Sea is not able to guarantee cabin or roommate preferences. Should a space be offered for a student to move off of the waitlist, they will have 24 hours to accept the cabin that is offered.

Academics and Field Programs

Depending on when the waitlisted student is offered a place on the voyage, they may not have access to Early Bird pricing for Field Programs.

Depending on when the waitlisted student is offered a place on the voyage, there may be limited options for course registration.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this wait list process. Remember you can send us an email or call our office with any questions.
